Huronia Trails and Greenways invites you to participate in any of these trail events. A great way of getting to know a new trail, or meeting like minded inviduals, who just like you want to explore our great trails in Simcoe County. These events are usually free of charge and coordianted by volunteers. Participation is at your own risk. Check with the event coordinator should you have any further questions.

Humber Valley Heritage Trail (15.5 km) Hike through a variety of forest, with short stretches past farm fields and see signs of wildlife activity as the area abounds with beaver, deer and wild turkeys. Meet at Dick’s Dam Park in downtown Bolton. From Queen Street (Hwy. 50) and King Street (main intersection in the older part of Bolton), take Queen St. north to Hickman Street then West on Hickman to Glasgow Road and follow Glasgow Road north to the meeting point. Carpool from meeting place. A drop out can easily be arranged for those wishing to do only 8 km. Bring water and lunch.

The Gables Property consists of 42.7 acres of land and is a City owned natural park with maple/beech woodlands including pine plantations, open spaces and Kempenfelt Bay. In this varied habitat we hope to see migrating and breeding birds. Naturalized spring bulbs such as Spring Squill and Yellow Anemones along with our early North American native wild flowers can be viewed along the numerous walking trails.

Workparty on the Mad River section of the Ganaraska Trail. Meet at 10 AM at Carruthers Conservation Area in Avening (Airport Road, west side, just north of the Mad River bridge). Bring workgloves, pruners and/or 2" paint brush.

This is a 2 part walk. We will spend about 45 minutes birding the park surrounding our meeting place, then we will drive to the opposite side of the Lake for a 3 to 4 hour walk looking for forest birds and mid spring wildflowers. Also a side trip to the new Heronry on Georgian Drive extension.

The walk will lead through forest and field with scenic views, wildflowers, and a large variety of birds. The area is located on the Niagara Escarpment in Bruce County. This is an all day outing; you will be back to Barrie around 4:00 – 4:30. Bring a lunch. Excellent photo opportunities!

This is a fundraising ride for the Heart & Stroke in the Copeland Forest, on Ingram Road. All participants must collect at least $50 in pledges to participate. There is a bbq lunch provided. Great prizes to be won. Top pledge earner (over $500) will take home a saddle package donated by Jackson Transport.

We should see Snapping & Painted Turtles nesting. This should be very informative as this is a busy nesting time for these turtles.

Visit Copeland Forest’s rich woods to see the last of the early spring flowers and explore what’s growing in the acidic soil of the hemlock groves. This will give us an appreciation of the flow of seasons and the different habitats. Forest bird songs should be at its best.

This is an interesting area. It is an area that the Club has only visited once before. Depending on conditions we may check out the shoreline for area shorebirds.
