Local hiking clubs can provide a good introduction to hiking by learning from experts. Clubs such as the Bruce Trail, Ganaraska Hiking Trail and Oak Ridges Trail organize hikes that can be found on their web sites. You will discover new places and friends by joining the club hikes, all of which are free.
Or, why not make up your own group of friends and explore some of the many trails in Simcoe County forests or other trail systems that can be found at www.simcoecountytrails.net. Look on this web site for Loop Trail (which start and end in the same place) and Linear Trail (A to B) maps that you can print out to follow a trail. You can also obtain a Safe Hiker Certification from a Hike Ontario course. See www.hikeontario.com

For organized hiking events, contact the Ganaraska Hiking Trail, or a Bruce Trail club. Local outfitters may also offer guided hikes. Hike Ontario (www.hikeontario.com) offers links to hiking organizations in other regions, and other useful hiking information
