In-line skating might be one of the best lower-body workouts ever, giving extensive work to the upper leg, hips and back/core muscles. While the cardio workout is also excellent, impact to the knees and ankles is minimized. Enthusiasts can take their hobby/sport out onto smooth trails and really go places, without the inconvenience of dodging traffic or hopping curbs. However, in-line skating is not just for hardcore fitness. On trails, skating can be a recreational romp. With some reasonably-priced skates and some basic safety gear, you and your family can boot around on the trails for an hour and check out what the fun is all about.
