Search for treasure with your eight-year old and a high-tech gadget.
Geocaching is a neat new adventure hobby involving a Global Positioning System (GPS), and online-tracking. Secreted along trails throughout Simcoe are hidden treasure troves, placed by fellow geocachers – every one is unique. Walk along the trail with your GPS, get close to the coordinates you found online, and let the hunt begin! If you find one, take out a souvenir and leave something for the next person. Websites devoted to the hobby let you track your finds and search for others. Interested? Check out www.geocaching.com

“We got within 20 feet, according to the coordinates on the GPS. Then the race was on. The kids circled around in a widening spiral until Kaylie yelled out ‘Found it!’ at the top of her lungs. She’s the littlest, but she has a nose for finding caches. She was so proud- she just couldn’t stop smiling”.

Most of the Simcoe County Loop Trails have a geocache, as well as many of the linear trails. Check the www.ontgeocaching.com website for the coordinates by typing in a postal code.
